I feel like it will be eventually. They made a point to announce that you can claim most ps1 games from ps plus for free if you already bought it on ps3, so I’d guess any games in that category will inevitably make their way to the service.

Saw this article too, but LoD never crossed my mind. ... Guess I've finally come to terms with the reality that it'll never happen... We've been forgotten, and noone loves us.

Honestly I don’t think a remake would be able to do it justice, anyway.
Like, I really have a hard time imagining how you’d translate the pre-rendered backgrounds into a more modern 3D environment, every single screen in LoD was beautiful and that’s just not sustainable to model. Not to mention the size of the cities and other bigger environments would show. In the game there are transitions between and other art tricks to make them look bigger but in reality most cities are just a few buildings. The world of LoD is more fantastical and and strange then the relatively industrial (but still cool) world of FF7.
Then there is the translation- I have no idea what to do about that either. Obviously it can’t be remade with the same script, but despite the grammatical errors, the actual delivery of it adds a layer of charm. I can’t help but think some of the dialogue would lose some of its magic if it was spelled out as plainly as possible.
I’d be willing to bet they’d want to remake the combat as well but FF7R did that well enough so who knows.
I really don’t think LoD needs a remake. Personally I think that the pre-rendered backgrounds still look great, and the models are so great for the time that I don’t really care that they don’t look like modern graphics (although maybe because I grew up with them they don’t bother me). It’s a gem just the way it is, so what does it need a remake for?

There are modern games with the pre-rendered backgrounds! (or at least the look of it). Here an image from Alaloth which was released just a few weeks ago. The visuals reminded me immediately like a higher-res LoD.

If they remade this game I would hope that they would keep the turned based combat. I played a bit of Final Fantasy 7 remake and was somewhat disappointed with the combat. Not sure why SquareEnix has totally abandoned turned based combat...

I think if you stick with FF7R you'll enjoy it, it's actually the best FF combat since FFX or beyond.
Don't get me wrong, I was disappointed it wasn't turn-based initially. But they kept materia at least and the graphics are beautiful, and seeing Wall Market (the sort of gritty, smutty, slightly cyberpunk area) remade and everything is really cool! If you keep an open mind I think you'll enjoy the game :)

This is gonna be a hot take and I don't care, I would LOVE it if they threw away the turn-based and used the real-time action style combat of FF15 and FF7R. Turn-based combat is a relic of a bygone era, a clever way to bypass the limitations of older weak hardware but nowadays having nice looking highly rendered characters just stand there and take turns to attack enemies just look silly and stupid. Unless it's a heavy tactical game that requires you to use all your brain-cells to make 4d chess strategies to win like Shin Megami Tensei 5, Tactics Ogre and Octopath Traveller, turn-based combat should not used in modern jrpg's.

I own them both, still love shining force more. I'm not saying tactics ogre isn't a well made game, those facts stand. But that's the best part about gaming, we can all enjoy the games we like.
