STOLEN BIKE (reward) - Cannondale Treadwell 3

Crime/Suspicious Activity

Hi everyone,

This morning (approx. 10:00-10:30) my 80 year old father's bike was stolen outside the Simmons Building along the River Walk in the east village. It's a yellow and orange Cannondale, with black wheels and handlebars. Medium frame. There is a sky blue bell fitted to the left side handlebar. No other distinguishing features.

We bought this bike last week as a way of getting my father more active, and this was his inaugural ride. My dad parked his bike, sat down, and a 30-40 year old man with fair complexion, wearing a white/beige t-shirt, shorts and ball cap hopped on and rode off west.

S/N: SB04520

Police report: T22013995

If anyone has any information that leads to the recovery of this bike, I'll pitch $100 your way.

I hope you guys can eventually get the bike back and the P.O.S. who took it gets his karma.

I am trying to avoid being too cynical about this since I am quite sure the bike is only a block or two away. I'm sure the person that stole the bike has plenty of problems to deal with already.

If anyone has any connections into the DI, I'd really prefer to get the bike back discretely before it gets spray bombed or changes hands too many times.

I saw the police recovering a brand new bike there yesterday afternoon, not your Dad's bike, but another obviously lifted bike. I hope your Dad has the same assistance.

The drop-in centre has more bikes than the Tour De France, as you’ve reported it already im hoping they’re constantly checking over there for you. Has mine stolen last week.

That's a hella public place to jack a bike. These thieves are bold.

Maybe the people that are pushing shopping carts with $5000+ bikes that are around there might know.

I'll keep an eye out! This sucks.

Sorry... I'll add, getting my older family a bike was the worst decision ever, this same exact thing happened twice before the 3rd she fell off and broke her hip, maybe just get a stationary.

Yeah that's why we got him this bike. He's still pretty fit for his age, but his balance isn't great and he's had two low-speed falls off hand-me-down bikes that had seating positions that were too aggressive for him.

In his mind he's still as fit as he was at 50, and taking him on a leisurely bike ride under the pretense of "going for coffee" is our way of keeping him active and engaged with society.

He's a little too old fashioned to do exercise for its own sake, so if he's not cycling we'll probably just do morning walks.

Unrelated but much trouble would you get in for stealing a stolen bike? Mine was stolen and I don’t really wanna buy another one. It’s pretty obvious to tell which bikes are already stolen on my commute to work..

I could even try to reunite the bikes I steal back with their rightful owners

I think that stealing your own bike back is ok.

Stealing someone elses bike because you assume it's stolen is a bad idea.

I think at best you'd just be coming into possession of stolen property, and at worst you're actually stealing something that might have been legitimately purchased.

Not to mention the risk of injury or loss of life.

I’m not saying go down to Westbrook station at 11pm and try to steal from a large group lol pick your spots obviously

I’m taking about the guys that have 100% not legitimately purchased a $5000 bike lol

But yeah, wouldn’t wanna be caught with someone else’s stolen bike

Oh, you mean the people that must have sold all their possessions and now carry them around in a shopping cart to afford their bike?

No, not those people

How is it obvious which bikes are stolen?

Crackhead passed out on the side of the street with a $2000+ bike. See it all the time on my commute to work
