50 mile drive to the LCS. Good thing there’s plenty of antique and thrift shops in the same area. 3 ounces of 999 generic for $25 each from the LCS and six Sterling knives for $1.33 at Goodwill . Win…Win 🪙🍌🪙🍌🪙🦧

It pays to dig through the boxes of flatware at Goodwill. They were at the very bottom of the box. Glad I had my eye loop with me.

They usually do a good job of removing anything valuable. They have their online store for sterling. I’ve never found sterling at mine at least.

They look pretty ratty, maybe an employee tried to hide them to buy later. But this 🦅 👁 ape beat them to it. 🤣

Ahahah! That sounds about right!

The knives are most probably stainless steel blades with sterling handles.

SilverLionsStackOP•

Blades are steal, but appear to be silver plated. Tested them with a magnet. Handles are stamped Sterling. Need to figure out the silversmith stamps.

In the sterling tableware I've inherited, the blades are actually stamped stainless.

SilverLionsStackOP•

I don’t see anything stamped on the blades of these knives.

just when you think you find something, it's plated 🙄

There was a plated spoon in the pile.

Is that Liberty a coin or a round?

If a coin, what year is it?

2
SilverLionsStackOP•

It’s a 999 round from the DT mint. 🪙

I need to start looking for some of these antiques

2

I have been looking for a while, finally scored some goodwill silver. You can find it at antique stores, flea markets, and auctions. But they generally know what they have and prices are not cheap. Thrift stores sometimes have bargains on high end items, because they don’t realize what they have.

What's a sterling knife worth?

1
SilverLionsStackOP•

Sterling silver knives can be tricky, like candlesticks they can be weighted in the handle. Some older Sterling is worth more than just scrap..
