when you show up late

I like to imagine the pattern

it would take to untangle

all the hairs that form a knot

on the back of your head,

that you missed with the brush.

and how I can do it

in such a way that would

never hurt you,

so softly

that you still would not know

I am there

always hoping you’re not on time

just so I can master it again.
