How can I become more involved in the community in general?

I always hear people talk about how awesome the community is and how great the fandom is.. And I see all the great stuff everypony makes. However I never get involved or get to meet people. I don't know where to look, what to look for or just what to do. I'm pretty sure there are no bronies in my area and I doubt converting them is the way to go. I just want to contribute to the awesome instead of just being a spectator. I'm musical and a bit artistic. I also could try fanfic writing since I have always been good at making up stories. In my spare time I play video games and cycle. Not long distance but I do have a racer bike. My favourite games vary but I have a soft spot for the dreamcast and ps2 games. I'm a fan of the Fallout series and love the lore and fanfics. I have read FO:E and have started Project Horizons. I play most games though from GTA to Minecraft.
