r/atheism, I am confused about beliefs I have that i feel to conflict my disbelief in a god.

First: I do not believe in a god. However, I am not going to use the "I do not believe in God because I cannot see him with my eyes" argument. Reason is... I believe in ghosts. But...i feel this just doesnt go hand in hand with being an atheist.

I think i have this belief because of the house I grew up in. It was an 100+ year old house. I never thought there was anything going on in that house while i was growing up. I did have some experiences, but i thought nothing of them. They included: roller-shades zipping up randomly, late at night, stereos going off in the middle of the night constantly, figures in the frosted glass in the door, and shadows. Since I was young, i thought the shadows and the figures were because of the dark, and the childhood fear of the dark. I also recall seeing white flashes on the walls of a dark room. The shadows and the figures were always there.

It wasnt until we were in the process of moving out that i began to think something was up with the house. When we were moving, the air changed. This was my first time moving, so i dont know it that usually happens. The air was heavy. I got sick. I was diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases months later(probably most likely my body, not anything paranormal, but i am throwing it out there). Some nights(actually most of the time), i felt that i was being watched. I never mentioned this to my parents until we got to the new house.

I told them. My dad who lived in the house for 25 years said: "Well, yeah. I've seen plenty of shadows of a little old lady in our bedroom. And i do feel like i am being watched. I always have." My mom, who lived in there for 17 years, said the same thing.

And, recently i found this out. It turns out that the new renters in my old house were actually friends of mine. I reunited with one of them, so naturally asked her how life in the house was. Immediately, she jumps to "OH I think it was haunted! It was so creepy..." and she tells me how she felt she was being watched, they saw handprints in the frosted glass, the doors would open and close repeatedly until the mother cried out stop(which they did), how they heard footsteps, and many more experiences. I never told her about anything paranormal in that house.

TL;DR So, i never had any religious influence when i was growing up, and im an atheist now. But 3-4 years ago i realized my childhood home was probably haunted, and i came to those conclusions without any influence from my parents. I do not know how to feel about this, but i do think the two beliefs are conflicting. I said above I do not use the "I cant see it therefore it doesnt exist" argument, but one reason i am atheist is because i find religion lacking of evidence and full of inconsistencies. I feel that i can find more evidence in ghosts due to all of the agreed feelings and experiences between me, my family, and my friends, than i can in religion. I just am unsure why i can believe in ghosts but not in a god(not that i want to have a religion). I guess it depends on your personal definition of evidence.

Like I said, I am confused about this, so if anything doesnt make sense, thats why. i personally feel that believing in ghosts doesnt fit with atheism. So that might be true, but it might not be true. I dont really know.

EDIT After reading your comments, I see that some are to the point, and others have more of an explanation. Let me clarify: I am in no way a rational person. It's not because of ghosts however. I'm germaphobic and paranoid. I am always on alert and notice the tiniest things. So if believing in ghosts makes me irrational, im not losing anything. I know that ghosts have no scientific evidence proving their existense. I know that even though i think there were ghosts in this house, it doesnt mean there really were any. So, i have experienced things that could be caused by ghosts. So has my family, and my friends, and nothing was shared until we talked about it. I believe there were ghosts in the house. So does my sister. Shes an atheist. So does my best friend. Shes an atheist. Yes I know it is ridiculous, but honestly i dont care. My belief in ghosts just sits in the back of my head. I do not live off of it. I do not see it in the same way I see a belief in a god. It just confused me yesterday. So if believing in ghosts just makes me an irrational atheist, like i said, i have nothing to lose.
