IUD insertion failed twice...any advice for Round Three?

I tried to get an IUD (ParaGard) today. The nurse determined that there IS enough room in my uterus for it (that was a concern because I have never been pregnant), however, the internal os of my cervical canal is teeny-tiny, and she just couldn't seem to insert the device. She gave me some misoprostol to dilate my cervix and had me wait an hour before trying again.

Round 2, however, was considerably worse. I was shaking uncontrollably, experiencing a lot more pain and weakness than the first attempt, and basically just cried and tried to breathe as she tried to insert it. Now, I have some theories on this:

I think the misoprostol may have made me more nauseated. I definitely think this is true because, well, I'm having terrible diarrhea now, and that is a common side effect of misoprostol. I think it probably made my stomach and intestines quiver, which in turn caused my uterus to quiver, and generally made me much more uncomfortable.

The nurse told me to come back when I'm on my period because it is usually easier to do the insertion then.

For you ladies who have had IUDs inserted, how did you cope with the pain, discomfort, and faintness caused by the procedure?

Before anyone asks, yes, I had taken ibuprofen. 600 mg before I even showed up.
