First time

So as the title states I'm going to be smoking for the first time with my girlfriend and one of her friends brothers. I've heard that a lot of people don't get high the first time but I also see a bunch of posts about how other people get high as balls their first time. Is this sort of different for each person or does it depend on the strain as well. We're going to be smoking sour diesel if that helps.
