Received my pre-order today. Listened to Skelethon about 13 times in a row, no exaggeration(I was playing xbox, don't judge.) Suddenly though, a revelation came through over 'ZZZ Top,' thought I'd share.
In my eyes, it's about how an artist can't suppress that part of themselves. The creative side. The unselfish yet entirely selfish side. The ego-less individual who is all absorbed into his craft and puts out or creates what they need to, to satiate that urge inside of them. It's about the musicians who are original. The Salvador Dali's of music. Those who HAVE to create. And when they don't create, then they're unfulfilled. To support this meaning, the imagery in this song pertains to a young kid growing up with bits and pieces of artistry bleeding through even the most subtle things that he does. At the same time, nurturing his hip hop roots, the outside influences come into play, kind of guiding his artistry into what it is at this exact moment. The main theme is that there's something sleeping inside of him through his entire childhood years, hence the title 'ZZZ' and how once that is clutched onto and cultivated, you elevate, hence the 'Top.' . It's hard to put exactly what I feel this song is about into words, but especially with the chorus, it hit me all at once, so I decided to make this thread. I'm sure, as with every aes song, we all have our own rendition, but this is mine.
