What do you think is next with the current state the internet is headed towards?

With ACTA, Lamar Smith acting up again, and not to metion the Mega scandal going on I can't help but feel that the web is headed towards a very unhappy place. With companies having a vested intrest in these bills, and probably more later, being passed it seems that it will eventually happen. As more and more almost unchecked power falls into their hands what is going to be the next place for people to go. If they are given unlimited power over the content we can acess and view people will still find ways around. I already know about IRC and the 'other' side of the net, just wondering what Reddit thinks about this. What will the next step be, what do you think will come into place for the average mildly tech literate person? Thanks for any input.
