Muzzled dog dreams

Quick messy poem, written just because I liked the idea of this subreddit. Edited because formatting.

Sometimes I dream like a muzzled dog.



Eyes shut, I kick and kick 

and claw out

whining like a bad song;

hurting only myself

by opening my mouth.



I set fire to my own house

then I lay in my bed and watched and feared

as the flames licked the walls.

Trapped in my own body, paralyzed

screaming but unable to call out.

The roof caved in and I woke up.



My darling woke to the inhuman sounds coming from my throat.

He held me as my breathing steadied

and asked me how I felt

his voice 

telling me how he wanted to take this burden from my shoulders.

And I love him the most.



I am a muzzled dog dreaming; I am angry and longing

I am desperate and frightened and in love.

I am so full of these feelings that I can't push out

of my muzzled dog jaws

with my fat tongue in my muzzled dog mouth
