JD's daydreaming inspiration?

I was watching reruns of Doug (you know, the best cartoon ever) and it struck me how much JD's daydreaming is reminiscent of Doug's. Any thoughts? Anyone know if there are any interviews or anything that can confirm this or is it just an interesting observation?
