My church experience after ten years of not attending.
The moment I discovered Santa was a made up character I begin to think about God and Noah and realized that one of every animal was as ridiculous as a fat man in a sleigh with reindeer.
Eventually, I begin to rethink all of my Catholic beliefs. Just to be sure I read the Bible. At one point it is said that if a woman has an affair and becomes pregnant. The abomination must be removed from the womb as punishment. Other parts of the Bible are even more gruesome and hateful, but of course a religious figure ignores these parts.
Anyway, I'm straying so let me tell you about my experience. First off my boyfriend and his family took a trip down to San Antonio, Texas for the weekend. Sunday my boyfriend's grandmother wanted to go to church as a family and begged me to go and of course I could never say no to an elderly woman with tears in her eyes especially after calling me "family." So I went into the colossal church and my eyes immediately went to the ginormous cross with Jesus hanging. The background was completely golden, marble floors beautiful stained glass art and statues it was quite amazing. Then my mind went to the homeless we'd passed and I thought one gold chalice pried from the priest's cold wrinkled hands would feed so many. There I go straying again. Back to my experience, throughout the mass the priest kept repeated stuff like "let our minds not wander about what the evil and arrogant atheist says. Do not argue with his ignorance, instead pray." It made me sick. He kept repeated things about "ignorant atheist" and so fourth. Once he even said "how are we to know that science is not the work of the dark angel himself? Perhaps he wants us to lose faith." He then encouraged the church goers to visit the small church owned stores and make purchases. He even asked us to buy brownies from a stand. It was ironic because the reading that day was about when Jesus went to the church and saw people selling and trading and buying and started flipping shit because it was sin to gather and sell at holy grounds and blah blah blah. The alter boys begged for more money and many people put their hard earned money into the baskets. One old man struggled to open his wallet and gave every dollar to the priest who went up to him and asked for a donation for the church. The priest then said, "God will bless you for being so kind." My heart dropped. This poor man is being fed lies and was obligated to give money how could he say no with everyone's eyes on him.
TL;DR Church is even more disgusting then I remembered it.
