Business to Metairie for two weeks, please help?

im 21, dont really drink much, just not my thing i guess, so im not looking for bars. i like to longboard, and do most outdoor stuff open to most ideas. what is there to do around town, im gonna be staying at the Courtyard, by i-10 and century so something close is preferable. any suggestion are greatly appreciated. also what areas should i avoid? ive heard NOLA isnt exactly super safe.
