Works in low elo: Guide to Support Lux
Hello Reddit.
As you can see from my flair, Lux is my favorite champion. However, I can't find a good justification at sending her mid lane over other champions like Ahri, Morgana, Cass, Xerath, etc. She's too high risk low reward, being all skillshots, and her burst numbers aren't high enough. The recent buffs are good, imo didn't hit the necessary parts to make mage Lux truly viable. However, the buffs surely did help support Lux.
My current elo is 1613, highest being 1623. When I say support Lux works in low elo, I would say it works in all elo ranged below mine. Give it out a try, I plan to keep attempting on support Lux if I were to reach higher elo as well.
I run 1/16/13 masteries. Runes are Armor reds and yellows, mr/cdr blues and G/10 quints. If you decide to check out my lolking page, the mastery page is 'squishy supports' and rune page is 'supports.' I can imagine other setups working as well, but I don't have that many rune pages to begin with, and this setup has worked well enough for me. Summoner Spells are Flash/Exhaust, but Teleport, Heal, Ghost, Ignite are all considerations to be made.
In game, Lux acts like a kill lane for the first 6 or so levels. After that, her damage falls off HARD. Until you get your core item, you can't expect to do much damage. However, if you pull off your first levels well enough to give your ad carry an advantage, you'll be fine.
Start with Faerie Charm with 3 wards and 2 pots of your choice. I usually put my first point into E, Lucent Singularity. Most of the time, whether you decide to invade or need to defend blue, E gives the perfect utility to start off: vision. The vision provision allows your other teammates land their cc, granted they have enough(if they don't, you're kinda screwed anyway). Well placed E's can give you vision of the enemy without giving away your position as well.
Skill order is EQWWWR. then I go R>W>Q>E. Remember, you're trying to be a zero cs support, so leveling up your damage won't help you so much. The shield, on the other hand, is an excellent utility which should shield your ad carry for about 4-5 auto attacks if landed well. Leveling W will also give you cooldown reduction, letting you use it more often. Q gives you cdr when you level it as well, so it's best you max it second. E should be used mostly for the AOE slow and vision, which as I said earlier, is extremely good. Spam E into the bush the Taric/Blitzcrank is hiding in and you save wards for jungle ganks while keeping their support in sight.
Build path goes Philostone, Heart of Gold, Boots of Lucidity, the occasional Kage's Lucky Pick, and the core Mejai's Soul Stealer. Now you may think this is troll, but seriously, Mejai's Soul Stealer is awesome on Support Lux. Getting assists with Lux is not hard at all due to her shield and big AOE with ult and E. Lux doesn't die that easily due to Q and W. These traits allow you to maintain a good number of stacks, and the AP helps you stay relevant throughout the whole game. The best part of buying Mejais is that the enemy team will start focusing you, which means you get to tank a lot of damage which should be going to your carries.
Complete build is Shurelya's, Locket of Iron Solari, Boots of Lucidity, Aegis of Legion, then situational items. I rarely go over this point in terms of building, but if you're doing well in your Mejai's, that means you can opt to build some ap as well.
I've used support Lux in quite a few games, and I would say I have a higher winrate with her than with mage Lux. I strongly recommend it to players who can hit skill shots and need another support to play(she's hella fun).
