Should I keep going? (Thomas Covenant)

So I just finished the 1st book in the series "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant." I picked it up since it has received lots of praise as one of the best fantasy series around.

Here is the thing, I absolutely loathe Covenant. I can't think of one thing I truly like about him. Also the first book bored me with all of the traveling. I can only take so much quiet thought time, his lack of communication with other characters made it worse.

So should I keep going? Does it get better? Does Covenant become more bearable?
