I just got diagnosed today! This is one of the happiest days of my life.
I'm 22 now, and I've dealt with sleep issues all my life. It's been diagnosed briefly as depression when I was younger, then as ADD from about when I was 13 to today. I've had so many academic, social, and marital issues all due to my sleep. I always thought I was just a deep sleeper, and felt terrible that everyone else could manage to get up and I couldn't. I've missed classes, social events, and even slept through a time my grandma came to pick me up from my house for a planned lunch (she rang the doorbell, called several times, and left many crying messages because she was scared). I've also been emotionally disinterested in things that I enjoy, and nobody understood why. The largest issue is that I'm capable at being very good at school, but I struggled from high school until now, which has cause a LOT of emotional stress.
Recently, I made friends with a narcoleptic who shared her symptoms that sounded just like mine. Long story short, I got my sleep study done, had the follow-up appointment today, and they said I was for sure narcoleptic. I AM SO HAPPY! All these problems, for 22 years, finally have a reason, and I have a knowledge to start improving my life from here on! I can't even begin to describe the relief and happiness I'm feeling. I look forward to being a part of the r/Narcolepsy community!
So how did you all feel when you got your diagnosis?
