EDEN LAKE (2008) discussion
I'm about 4 years late to the game here, but I just saw a British film called EDEN LAKE that I would immediately rank as one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen. Sure, it's at times very grotesque, but the most harrowing aspects of it are easily the raw and savage antagonists. The story follows an easygoing couple who try to enjoy a weekend of relaxation at a lake, only to find themselves being terrorized by a group of rowdy, thuggish teenagers. The attention to detail and writing behind each of these kids is painful for me to watch--because I know that it comes from a realistic frame of reference. There are kids in the world that come from bad homes and are susceptible to this kind of reprehensible, violent behavior. EDEN LAKE is one of those films, like Larry Clark's KIDS (1995), that I can admire and study, but never really recommend.
Have you guys seen EDEN LAKE? What did you think of it?
