7/9 - Malibu, CA - On the move

Continued from here

I'm in my car, bag of supplies and gear in the back. I'm driving north on the Pacific Coast Highway. I don't know where I'm headed, but I'm headed away from Los Angeles.

I got off my roof with some simple diversions created by throwing the roof tiles across my back yard. These things have excellent hearing. Soon as the tiles started to smash against the ground, wall, and windows, A lot more than I expected crawled out of the shadows. Fortunately for me, they aren't very smart as I was able to make it down from the roof and into my car with relative ease. Once the car door was closed, I felt a sense of relief. At least for a short while. The things started walking, some were trotting, toward my car faster than I thought. I was able to make it out, but that was all I was able to do. I refuse to call those things zombies. Or walkers, or the dead, or anything like that. These things were real. They weren't from a movie or book.

I wish I had packed my cell phone. There's no way to tell how long the towers will be functional, but at the very least it would keep me busy. I can't even worry about my friends or family right now. I just left everything I had worked for, so that I could live to work another day.

I've been driving about 4 hours now, but with the abandoned vehicles and blocked road ways, I've only managed to get to Malibu. I've passed by too many half rotting bodies, half living bodies, and stranded people to feel bad about what's happened to this beautiful city. Smoke and ash fill the air. Just a week ago, I swore I would help whoever I can in desperate times. Right now I'm having trouble deciding whether to leave the abandoned or take what I need to from them.

Just a day or two ago, I looked at the looters with contempt. Now I half wish I had joined them. At least then I wouldn't have to even think about gathering supplies from what seem like abandoned cars and houses. I can't even believe I'm hanging onto trivial morals like that at this time.

Anyways, I need to get off this highway. No cars or people might be safe for now, but there are barely any exits or junctions. If I come to a dead end for any reason, it may literally be a dead end.
