Watch out for those summer lightning storms!

Just a reminder to remove your radio equipment of all kinds from any outdoor antennas during lighting storms.

The same thing goes for radios and "cable" TVs. With 72 ohm cable you can get a quality surge suppressor that bundles a coaxial cable lightning suppressor, and also make absolutely sure wherever the cable enters your home isn't just grounded, it should be grounded with a cable lightning suppressor to a cold water pipe and/or one of those grounding feedthroughs going to a thick copper grounding rod deeply planted in the ground. In soil. Test the resistance to ground with an ohmmeter.

A nearby lightning strike will often fry any and all electronic equipment connected to long lengths of anything conductive, so when you have a long cable run, use a sacrificial cheap device at its terminus and ground that.. Better to lose a $15 Ethernet or USB hub, etc. than your computer or your ham radio equipment.
