19F: don't know how to kickstart quasi-hookupbuddy relationship outside of school

(sorry for the throwaway but it seems errybody be redditing this days) (also hopefully this is in the correct subreddit?!)

College student here. I'm a second year, he's a fourth. We're from around the sameish area (twenty-five minute drive), started casually hanging out/hooking up (veeeery loosely, I'd call us friends-with-benefits) during the most recent quarter of school. He suggested we keep up during the break and generally is not a fan of initiating (though he has in the past) so I've been "hitting him up."

And yet! The two times I've actually worked up the nerve to talk to him (via texting) he's either had something up or been laconic. I'm not really sure if he's just uninterested because that's what twenty-one year old men are like or...? I worry that he thinks I'm more into him than I actually am. I most certainly do not want a relationship with this guy, and I'm almost 99% sure that he too only wants a casual situation. So I fear that if I text him again, it'll only make me seem desperate and turn him off.

The question: I do want to see/hang out with this guy again because we always have a ton of fun together. My instinct now is to just wait it out--eventually he will make contact? But there is a bit of a time crunch as I'm heading over to school soon-ish to take an extra class while he's staying back here for another two months. What shall I do, wise world?
