AMD or Intel?

I don't need links to anything I'm just here to decide which to, once an for all, side with.

So lately, I've been wanting to build a gaming PC. I have about the same of amount of people on both sides recommending both companies.

On one side, I've read that AMD processors lack a little perfromance but are just as easy to overclock and you can get the same power as an intel processor for less.

On the other side, intel is the premium company with very high performance processors and higher performance without the need for overclocking, but of course you can.

My question, I am a very low budget gamer and I really need to buy something I know will be good, but I want to try to pay less.

So please give me your input, because I'd really like to know. By the way, I have also heard that it's all a matter of preference.
