Thoughts on apple

Okay so I'm getting a laptop for college and I'm wondering why people say apple laptops are so good. Now I don't know what to think I've had a shitty dell for most of my life. But all my friends are recommending apple. Is there some sort of technological reason why apple is better, like specs wise or startup wise. Thanks for explaining if you can.
