I've been working on a roguelike game (not turn based, but with similar elements) and am looking for some feedback.
Hi everyone~
I've been working on a game for the past two or three weeks that I'm calling "Geode". It pulls a lot of elements from Terraria, but in the long run I'm shooting for some good sidescrolling dungeon-crawl and intend to run with the whole 2D block-breaking idea and merge it with the dungeon-crawler/roguelike genre.
Anyway, here's what I have so far.
It's written in Java. If you're interested, to run it, just pull the folder called "Geode" and stick it somewhere. Then go in the folder and find the .jar called GEODE. That's the game. If you try to run the game while it's inside the .zip it won't load the images.
-Note, you have a chance of ending up inside a tile when you start the game, which means you won't be able to move. You can dig yourself out.
The Controls:
WSAD to control that character.
Jumping is a pain. You have been warned.
Holding the mouse down on a non-blank/darkness tile can remove it. That tile will go in your inventory.
123456789 select inventory items. Press 0 will select blank, which you can use to remove tiles without placing one.
Q opens the inventory. E closes it.
Monsters:
There are three types of slimes that will show up in day and during the night. They behave the same but have different rewards for killing them.
Ghosts come by night. The yield ghost sheets, which are currently useless. ;)
Crafting:
You can craft items you have in your inventory.
If you click an item, it will go into the bottom section of the inventory.
If you put a certain combination inside the inventory and then click the black button, it will craft the item.
Here's some combinations:
-
Wood+grass=bow (only way to hurt the monsters)
-
Wood+stone=12 arrows
-
Wood+5 copper ingots = copper pickaxe
I'll let people find out some of the others.
My goals with this game:
Eventually I'd like to have a very vibrant underground rpg dungeon crawler with procedurally generated terrain and both a hardcore (perma-death) mode as well as a persistent world mode. I also intend to add a history generator like the one in Dwarf Fortress.
I hope this post isn't a bother- I just thought this was a good community to post this in because of the nature of my game. Does anyone know of a better place to put this?
Anyway, if you're interested, I'd love to hear your feedback.
