I am an otherwise attractive girl with crushing low self-esteem due to this condition.
So around puberty my friends started pointing out these tiny bumps on my skin, which have stayed with me ever since.
These bumps are the result of something called Keratosis Pilaris, a genetic follicular condition which causes the body to produce too much keratin. Despite being fairly common, I haven't knowingly met anyone else with it. It didn't bother me until people started noticing my skin during high school, and I've grown accustomed to wearing 3/4-long sleeve shirts and pants year round. I live in a very hot climate so this has taken a lot of getting used to. I guess I'd rather be physically uncomfortable than mentally. This seemingly superficial problem has taken root in my psyche as a debilitating self esteem issue. I'm not sure if I will ever feel comfortable in my own skin again.
