first time cosplay hair tips

well im planning on doing kiritsugu emiya from fate zero for next years AX and it will be my first cosplay and i will not wear a wig. i do have black and i can grow it out but is there any tips or anything from experienced cosplayers i should know about for styling and setting up my hair. also i think my friend will help style it but shes not the best either.thanks :D
