Why do most people get offended/angry when you give them advice? Isn't it better to share what you know?

Or would they rather hear lies?

I had a friend whose purse got stolen and announced it on Facebook. I told her what she think she should do. I was only trying to help. She went a long with it, then at the last second blew up at me accusing me that I think she's a dummy or something. I apologized and backed off and she went off telling a bunch of people how I tried to help her.
