Force play store to stop updating?

The new update to the play store that added magazines made it so that I can't download apps over 4g. I have to switch to 3g for them to start downloading. It just says "waiting for network" as if it were in airplane mode. I'm on Sprint using WiMax technology. I don't really need magazines since I never use them. Can I force the play store to not update? I don't want to wait for them to fix it.
