What is this SocketException crap?

Any and every server I try to connect to--I get

Connection Lost

Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

I tried this suggestion--complete with restarting my computer, and I still get this crap.

I've played on multiplayer just fine in the past.

How do I fix this for myself?
