My friend is getting into makeup... but refuses to wear mascara.

I have a friend who was always interested in makeup, but when we met and she saw how much I LOVE makeup, she started actually trying things and asking me for feedback. But what KILLS me is that she refuses to use mascara. She has naturally really long eyelashes, and she says that she looks like a 'whore' with mascara (hate that word, but I've decided to let that particular issue go)

Now, I'm almost positive that it's a psychological thing (afraid that playing up a natural amazing feature will make her look like an attention-seeking drama queen, or something) but I still can't bring myself to let it go - I feel that I have a right to express my opinion since she sends me pictures and asks what I think. I think that my best option is to convince her to use a mascara that ONLY darkens - no lengthening, volumizing, curling, what have you. Does anyone have any suggestions for a simple, bare-bones mascara?

Also let me know if you don't think mascara is necessary and I'm making too big of a deal about it. But.. the eyeshadow fallout on her lashes......
