When to start taking my new birth control pack?

Ok, I know this is my second post asking BC questions but I'm totally new at these pills.

I've finished my first pack and am on the placebo's. I was spotting while on the real pill. I figured it was because the hormones were delaying my period. As soon as I started taking the placebo's, my period started to pick up and got heavy as usual. I guess my body is trying to get used to it. Well tomorrow is my last placebo pill and then Wednesday I start my new pack and my real pill. Well my period is done right now! So tomorrow, do I even take my last placebo? Or should I just take my real pill? I don't want to be unprotected because I'd like to start having sex again with my fiancee now that my period is done.. but he thinks I should still take the placebo as planned.

I'm on Ortho-Cyclen if that helps.
