Why I switched to android. And yes, I am prepared for the downvotes (this is r/iphone)
Let me start by saying I have owned both an iPhone and an android. Currently I use an android on a day to day basis and I can't believe the difference. Now there are plenty of apple fanboys out there that will tell you, "well android is just a knock off of iOS" now that is horribly incorrect. Android may have come after iOS, but it is far more advanced, and changeable than its apple counterpart. And here are the examples as to why: First off, the android operating system is entirely open source, anyone and everyone can get their hands on the system and write an app. At no cost. Now whereas with apple, not only do you need a mac, but you need to cough up $100 bucks to participate in their development program. All to make an app that might not even get put into the App store. Bogus. Also, the computer giant that is apple is more focused on profit than the actual advancement of their products, for example. With the iPad, the original one, could they have put a camera in it? yes. why didn't they? because they knew that if they did it later people would buy ANOTHER iPad because it had a camera. Now don't get me wrong, if i was Apple, I'd do it too. But it leads to their products always being well behind the curve. Which brings me to my next point. If you want an android you can make it yours. Their are so many flavors of android out there: Maybe a low end affordable LG optimus with the basic AOSP system, or maybe a high end Samsung Galaxy S3 with its powerful quad core processor, or maybe an HTC one S rooted to run on MIUI. There are so many different androids at so many different prices. iPhone 4: starting at 199.99. HTC vivid: 50 dollars. and the hardware absolutely stomps on the iPhone. Whatever you want in an android smartphone, you can have. Don't like your home screen setup? Go download GO launcher. Don't like your stock messaging app? get handcent. There is an INFINITE amount of customizations to the android system that allow you to make your phone your own. However this is not true with apple's iOS. Their launcher is so plain and boring, and what if you have a lot of apps? you have to scroll through 5 pages of home screen just to find one of them, and they aren't even organized by alphabetical order. Now you can organize your apps into folders yes. But, i would MUCH rather have an app drawer like i do on my android instead of a bunch of folders cluttering up my home screen. And one of the biggest things for me is, root permission. Their is an unparalleled amount of enhancements available to android when you root the system. such as CPU overclocking, and undervolting. this saves a tremendous amount of battery. Apple doesn't want that. But you can jailbreak it! and change the font. cool. Another thing about most android powered phones is the fact that you can upgrade the battery. Bulky yes, but hey, at least it's an option. I mean shit apple charges 200 bucks just to replace the damn battery in an iPhone 4. Really? a new battery for my inspire costs 8 dollars.
