Trying to boot off USB, getting weird screen after intial ubuntu load screen

Trying to boot Ubuntu 12.04 off a USB 3.0 Patriot FAT32 format flash drive after using LinuxLive to create the boot drive. Initial ubuntu screen loads, then I get this weird jazzy screen http://imgur.com/TJszJ.

This looks like a graphics card issue, but the laptop is a Qosmio x505 series with a Nvidia GTS250M, which I believe should be supported. I'm at a lost as to alternative issues, so any advice would be greatly appreciated
