External Hard Drive Not "Turning On"

Hi, I have a 500 GB Seagate that I purchased in 2008. I always use it on my Alienware laptop running Vista.

Basically, I plug the power chord into an outlet like always but it makes no sound and no lights go on. There is usually a yellow strip of light that comes on.

It worked yesterday but I did move it from one apartment to another. It is, I guess, possible that it got knocked around a bit, but if it did, it was much. Seriously, it's in good shape. A little shake and nothing seems "out of place". It isn't damaged physically, at least on the outside.

I tried multiple power outlets and nothing. I'm thinking it's probably a goner but I'd still like confirmation. If it is dead, can I get my data from it? If it is possible, how? If it would be difficult, can I take it somewhere, like a shop, and can they do it?

Picture of what it looks like. I am pretty sure that is almost exactly it. This

I appreciate your time guys, I know you do it out of the kindness of your hearts. I am happy to provide more info if necessary.

EDIT: Hey, so I went to my local Best Buy and bought a 1200mA Universal AC Adapter to see if that might get the thing to turn on if it was the power adapter. It didn't work but it might not have been right in the first place. I am uploading some pictures, just in case they might be any help or can help someone point me in the right direction.

Where It Goes

Thanks guys, I might have to get a new case, I know, but it just perplexes me because it seems to be completely undamaged. I have a gut feeling it's the power adapter but maybe I just bought the wrong one.

Totally understand I should have had it backed up on two devices, rookie mistake.
