A question regarding the Dexter books and tv-series.

Hey r/books, I have a short question about the Dexter books. I have watched the tv-series, oblivious to the fact that it is based on the books by Lindsay.

My question is, are the books worth reading after the tv-series have been watched? In other words, to what extend do the tv-series follow the original books?
