a story and a favor?

Right, this is r/creepypasta, so I will give you a story, obviously. First though, I'd like to invite you to another creepypasta site I frequent, that I don't know if you've heard of or not. It is the spiritual successor to www.creepypasta.com, and features many of the same members. The name is a bit silly, but it's nice to have all my stories again. The site is terrortortellini.com. Anyway, here's that story I promised. It was recently submitted to terrortortellini

================= Glints

I, like you, have enjoyed these stories for a very long time. Maybe it's been too long, in hindsight. One of my favorite types of story was the ritual genre. It was difficult to pull off a ritual without it sounding terribly cheesy or imbalanced, and when a good one came along, I lapped it right up.

That's how this all started. I'd just read a ritual pasta describing the streaks of light you sometimes see late at night. They flit through your periphery just long enough to make you wonder if you've actually seen them or not. Evidently, they're called Glints, and they are mischievous spirits that wander our realm. Being fairly weak, they should be easy to deal with, but their speed makes it almost impossible to control them. I know that now.

You see, the pasta noted that they don't like to be seen, or at least not fully acknowledged. It means they didn't go fast enough past you, or sneak around your field of vision well enough. The ritual entailed a means of luring them into being more brazen around you. All you had to do was act like you didn't notice them, and they would come a little further into sight, or slow down just ever so slightly, to make sure you noticed them. According to the ritual, anybody who could manage to catch a Glint would be able to take it into their body to drastically improve their health, and increase their lifespan. It seemed easy enough to try.

I sat still in my chair, reading, playing games, eating snacks...anything to just pass the time. Eventually, I saw them, barely. Quicksilver flashes of mercury streaking past me. I kept up my charade for weeks, until one day, I did it. I flipped my hand off of the mouse and snatched a Glint right out of the air as it passed in front of the screen. The pain was immediate. These things were not just glimmers of light, or souls, or anything like that. They were all too tangible. It's sleek razor-like body whipped itself through my hand. Blood streamed down my wrist and I cried out in surprise. In their anger, they relished in my agony, and started to swarm around me, lashing out with their metallic tails, slicing through skin and tissue.

I've lost a lot of blood since then. I try to get to my door, but they block me in and whip even more furiously at me. I don't think I'm going to last much longer, so I'll just leave you with a warning: not all of these stories are just made up. Some are very real, so don't go poking around like I did. One more thing: if you ever see a glint of light flash past you late at night, whip your head round and try to see it. You won't see it, but you'll satisfy it, because you don't want to see them angry.
