You mean upside-down pistons don't push themselves up? My dreams of building a car are crushed :(

Only started playing 2-3 weeks ago, and I've only done survival mode with randomly generated maps. After successfully building my first redstone circuits (very very crude ones at that) I began to fantasize about pistons.

I had this idea for building a car, primarily using pistons/sticky pistons as the "Wheels"...if you've read Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson, something along the lines of the spoked wheels on the skateboards.

So for the first time I decided to launch a creative mode world and see if I could build it.

I get why...should a single piston move an entire city placed on top of it upwards a block? That would be silly. Or should it just move a small range of blocks? That'd be tricky to figure out.

Ah well, back to survival mode!
