[bug] Can't update or install 4.1.2

Alright, not sure if I am just having a mental block or not. I couldn't find an answer via search or the googles, so I have to wonder if this is a new thing? I am currently using v3.4 (yes, I know...) and wanted to updated tonight. So, I download, no problems. Have the RES.crx file sitting in my downloads folder, then I click on it and Chrome give me this error Imgur.

It won't let me install it. I clicked on the Learn More Imgur and it tells me that I can only download from the Chrome Web Store, which I found that the developer is highly reluctant to do. Am I missing something? Can I install this another way?

Incidentally, I tried to find a way to "explicitly tell chrome that I want to install this extension" through the Extensions page, but I don't see a way. I put it in developer mode, but it only allows me to browse for unpacked extensions.

edit: So, I used 7zip to unpack the RES.crx to a directory so that I could select loading an unpacked extension, and it installed, but gave me an error:

"There were warnings when trying to install this extension; Support for manifest version 1 is being phased out. Please upgrade to version 2."

Incidentally, it gives me warnings when I try to allow in incognito mode (of the "Google Chrome Cannot prevent extensions from recording your browsing history. To disable this extension in incognito mode, unselect this option" . Not sure if that is standard or not...but it makes it kind of hard to browse r/gonewild and r/spacedicks ;-).
