27/f. Am I moving too fast to even be thinking of moving for long-time best friend/new-ish boyfriend so soon?
So my guy (30) and I (27) have known each other for seven years. We met when we were in college when I was 20 and were close friends instantly, but I had a boyfriend. He’s in the army and has been since then. When I was 21, and my boyfriend and I broke up, we both admitted we had feelings for each other and kind of started something. But he’s in the army, and he has been to war and moved around consistently since I have known him. He has never been near me before, and it was just too much to try to build a foundation of a relationship when we were so far away from each other. And, at the same time, I wanted to go to Law School. I mean, trying to follow him around was just not an option for me with my goals, and we both knew that. I just graduated from Law School this June. Don’t get me wrong, I love the law and I love women that want to be a full-time working mom, but that’s never been me. Many may think Law School was stupid for me, but it was my goal and I wanted to do it. I want to work, but I want to be a mom and a wife more than anything. I don’t want to try and work while raising young kids. Some women can do it all, and I have so much respect for them. But I know myself, and I don’t think I could work and be a mom/wife fulltime and do all of it well and I don’t want to try to. And I am more traditional in that I love the idea of being a support for my husband – that’s what I want and I always have. I know, kind of a side note, but following a husband around is the least of my problems. Now that Law School’s done, I’m in a position to take risks for love that I’ve never been in. As it turns out, my guy gets stationed 5 hours from where I am and came here 2 weeks ago. I mean, not right next door, but close enough to where we can make this work. We’ve already said the I love you, I want to marry you stuff – that’s old news and has been for years. He’s my best friend. But us having a relationship is new because we’ve both realized it wasn’t the right time to try before. Now, I’m so, so excited at the possibility of us working out. It feels old in that we know each other so well, but new all at the same time. He “jokes” a lot about me looking for jobs where he is. I know him well enough to know he’s not entirely joking, more like testing the waters, but I’m not sure exactly how so. The truth is – I want to. I would move there in the near future and look for jobs where he is instead of where I am. It is the best time for me to do something risky like that, and I want to take the risk with him. Am I crazy? Is it too fast to be thinking of this stuff even though we have a history? How do I know if he’s thinking the same thing or if I am moving too fast? TLDR: seven-year love interest and best friend gets stationed 5 hours from me 2 weeks ago, and I’m in a time of transition where moving is totally possible. Am I crazy to even think about moving where he is or to think that he could want that, too? Thank you in advance if you take the time to help me out...
