I just got accepted, and I would really appreciate some advice.
Hello. As the title says, I was just admitted about four hours ago to the science department as a 2nd-year student. My admission decision was really late because the undergrad admissions department initially lost my transcript. I am a prospective international transfer student and I am wondering if UBC is still a viable choice.
First of all, I want to get into the biology specialization. I did not have the required credits to choose the biology specialization, so I chose computer science for the time being. Would it be easy to switch to biology down the road, or perhaps pursue a double or combined major?
Next, I am wondering about housing. I do not know anyone who lives in Vancouver. Living on campus is really the best option available to me and the only one my parents are willing to consider at this point. I read somewhere that transfer students are guaranteed housing for their first year at UBC. I looked at my housing application, and it says that I will be placed on a waitlist if/once I accept my admission offer. These statements contradict each other. Does anyone know if I am still guaranteed housing?
Another concern of mine is getting into classes. At this point, as a second year, do I still have a chance at getting a decent schedule and fulfilling some of my requirements?
Finally, I am wondering if it is worth all of the time-related hurdles that my late admission decision has put on me. I guess I am trying to figure out if I should just stay at my current university or if it is worthwhile to go to UBC. Finances aren’t an issue, I don’t want to miss out on a good opportunity, and I want to make the most of my undergrad. Thoughts?
Thank you in advance!
TL;DR: I was just accepted and I am trying to figure out if UBC is still a good option for me.
