First time!

So my boyfriend and I have been dating for about 8 months now, and we've decided that we're both definitely ready to have sex. We'll be losing our virginity to each other, so I want it to be a special experience. My question, though. I just got a prescription for birth control today(which is partly the reason we've waited this long) and I have to wait until my next cycle to start taking it. After a month on the pill I can have sex? But do I need to use a condom still? I'm so confused.. TL; DR: Don't know standard operating procedure for the pill + condoms..help
