Anyone make the switch from sport to cruiser?

So while I LOVE my fz6 I have been thinking about trading it for a bit more of a cruiser style bike. My two big motivations are

  1. I can't help but ride a tad on the fast side. I do my best to control my speed...but the twisties get me every time

  2. Where I live I have nothing but long rides. Next town over is 30 minutes and if I wanted to start riding my bike to appointments and stuff it is 1hr+ each way. As a tall heavy guy I just can't do it on the fz6. My knees cramp, my butt hurts (even after adding sheepskin), my back hurts, and worst of all my ankles are destroyed.

I had to have serious surgery on my ankles awhile back that has resulted in them being a bit weak. I have already done over a year of physical therapy, so they are about as good as they are going to get. Riding the standard/sport style where my weight is braced on my toes is honestly painful.

At the same time I am afraid that I won't like cruisers. To be honest I hate the loud "noise" that comes with a lot of cruisers and have really liked the more silent ride (minus wind noise :-P). I also have to admit I love the power, I am a bit afraid that a cruiser will just not have that feeling of power that my FZ has.

I have looked at more "touring" orientated bikes however they all have pegs that are more straight down which I fear will just continue the same ankles problems that I am having.

Any thoughts/advice/opinions?
