I just got an auto-red light ticket after stopping at a red light thanks to some crazy event... Can I help myself?
Okay so I literally just drove casually through a red light that had a red-light camera on it.
Here's how this happened: I stopped at the light - 2 cars to my left, one behind... I am in center lane of a 3 lane road with an additional left lane dedicated to left turns (one is occupied).
Left turn only arrow goes green first. Both cars on my left proceed (only one should have). The guy immediately to my left takes off (he's in the first through-traffic lane)... Runs the red light, triggers a bright camera flash... Guy behind me hits his horn. I was looking down not paying attention, saw the flash, heard a horn, saw the guy behind me and someone infront of me rolling forward... So I take off thinking I was sitting at a green light...
Then it hits me, the light was still red... and the camera just started flashing so much that I was literally blinded for a few seconds, till I cleared the intersection, and it sinks in that I just ran a light and got ticketed.
This happened in Gilbert, AZ.. my concern is I already went to traffic school and hope I can talk to a judge to get myself out of this ticket but... I literally have no idea how that is going to happen without either getting laughed at, or being forced into the ticket either way. There were no cars in other directions, the light was RED for me because the opposite/oncoming traffic also had a green left arrow (but nobody at the stop light)..
TL;DR : I rolled through a red light because someone else did, and the guy behind me was honking at me. I was oblivious to my surroundings thanks to distractions.
Is there something I can do to un-fuck myself? My biggest issue is license points, due to a large speeding ticket a few months back, if I end up with more points on my license is due for suspension.
