Do you know or have you heard of anyone successfully "Early retraining" at halfway through 1st enlistment?
I'm very close to 3 of 6yrs and I've just about had all I can take of my current job (yes maintenance). It's equal parts the job itself and the people in these career fields. I was honestly just thinking today that I could take a gamble at early retraining at my 3 year mark toward Contracting, if I lose that gamble just submit a palace chase package, and if that fails just get together the paperwork to get out.
Even though I sound miserable I really do like the AF as a whole. I meet people from other career fields who can't say enough about how much they enjoy doing their jobs. Unfortunately, the majority who really LOVE maintenance are brainwashed robots. I wake up every day dreading the coming workday and I'm confident I should be doing something else... Any advice?
Edit: Submitted without asking if I should just tough it out for 2 more years and retrain in my "window" at 59th month? Is retraining as a SSgt pretty much a sure thing (I'll make Staff!)? I think even worse, I haven't seen anyone at either of the bases I've been stationed at be retrained (talked about a lot, but always falls through).
Thanks reddit. This means a lot.
