Hey r/india what's your stand on the present reservations system in India?
I'm writing this from a dummy account for some reasons.
yesterday when i was talking to my brother, he said that he feels like running away from this country after completing his degree and find a place somewhere in west where positions are reserved for talent and merit, affirming at the same that that he isn't being unpatriotic.
even i have faced this several times.
+2, when though there are more(almost double) seats in those so called premier institutes of the nation, IITs, than the rank i got after working for 2 years staying away from my parents and i don't get the admission into any fucking branch in even the newly setup IITs, but a guy with a higher rank gets into it, thanks to the quota. his family aint even economically backwards. i've cheated my parents on studies, progress reports etc many times at school, but for gods sake i have worked hard those 2 years. and after the result, though i have secured a rank, i don't wanna go deep personally but that's the worst phase of my life. In india you know, the parents mind set, peer pressure and where such things go.
and now, i'm in a college with my dad paying the sem fee of mine and part of the quota candidates, because they have fee reimbursements and my dad pays the tax. i'm not sad for that, but many guys who are studying for free don't deserve that. I wouldn't complain if they don't get the grades, but most of them aren't poor, at least compared to my family.
and that's just not me or my sister, even my dad had to face this at govt. jobs and and ffs even at promotions.
the quoto slimmed my chances and ate my opportunities at many other places too and i have already decided, I have no dilemma when i have to decide between the questions like CAT or GMAT? and GATE or GRE? things i.e, i don't want to study in this country anymore and again let me tell you, i love my country.
okay, i have written all that in some agony of my past that, but what's your stand on the issue?
It's already been 60 years, and people still asking for more quota and with our leaders promises, quota is still increasing with every elections.
i'm honestly not against this if it is based on economical background or some other factor that is morally acceptable to everyone. But the current system?
