Numbers fascinate me. Math class ruined me. Help?

I play with Python every now and then. The only programs I make work with numbers, trying to really analyze the basic math behind what high school taught me. I keep trying to think of new relationships between numbers that have always been taught on the surface level, and never why it works the way it does. Trying to make a program that mathematically performs something a person can do without consciously using math at all is fascinating to me.

What all can I do to expand on this? Thanks in advance.
