How to improve at drafting?

So I've been to quite a few drafts now, and I have improved quite a bit since I started. I've gone from maybe having a chance to win a game to winning 50% of my games for the last 3 drafts. I contribute this to me learning and becoming familiar with the cards in the set and in being able to recognize synergies between cards.

How do I improve more? Since I started drafting I noticed that the same 2 or 3 people always take 1st or 2nd. It's obviously the players because there is no way that these players are able to consistently get the most amazing cards every week. I feel like there is almost an underlying, subtle, skill set that separates the players who are consistently able to get 1st and 2nd from those like me who are only able to come within reaching distance of taking home a pack, but I don't know what it is.

How do I close the gap between those two? Do I just need to become more familiar with the set or do I need to learn to interpret the state of the game more? Or maybe I have it all wrong?

Thanks in advance.
