Too nice or to distant? (need advise)

I always lose this battle. When i really like the person I meet I seem to be too much and when I meet others I seem to be too distant, and those are the girls that get into me instead of the girls i like. CATCH22 FOREVER ALONE. (any advise)

EDIT: PS. Am I just suppose to be mean to the girls I like? I do ok meeting people just seems to never be the right people.
