Elo system explination

I dont know the math behind the elo system but i've played sc2 and arena in wow. I know how it works really well first hand.

Explination: Your win loss ration is less important than who you win/lose vs. It's about your teams mmr vs your opponents. mmr is match making value.

Example: Your team has 1500 mmr. your opponent has 2000 mmr. If you lose to this team, your mmr will go down very slightly if at all because of the large difference between your mmr and theirs. If you win your mmr will sky rocket up by the maximum allowed value per match most likely. Elo expects you to lose this match.

What it does: Elo will eventually find your mmr where you belong. This is where you will expect to win 50% of the time and lose 50% of the time if you start winning more your mmr will raise until you stop winning too much. With this system no matter how good you get, it'll find someone to beat you.
