Was I sold the correct weights?
I recently purchased a brand new body solid 300 lb olympic weight set with black bar from a local sports store but it was a display model, so I did not receive a box. However, the weights that came with it do not match the pictures nor description of the olympic plates on the Body Solid website.
What I was sold:
Olympic plates & description from the Body Solid website "Virtually indestructible, all Olympic plates are machine bored for a precise fit. Satin black enamel finish":
http://www.bodysolid.com/Images/Products/OPB/600/144l.jpg
The plates appear to be of a cheap quality. The flat black paint rubs off with just a finger (they are unused and you can already see the wear in the photo). Other iron plates I've gotten from a different vendor have an actual enamel finish. The bar also has no markings indicating the manufacturer.
I called Body Solid customer service and described the plates. Customer service said it sounded like theirs despite not matching the description. He said that they get the plates & bar from a manufacturer in China and ship them out unlabeled. The representative had a cavalier attitude during the call and was not at all concerned about the difference in the finish.
The set wasn't particularly cheap, so I wanted to make sure I was sold the correct thing. What do you guys think?
Is it common for manufacturers to advertise one thing on their website but sell something that doesn't match their own descriptions? Have I been duped?
